The Secret House of Winchester of San Jose, California

Where is Winchester House?

Winchester House is located in San Jose. It was the official home of Sarah Winchester, and was built in the Victorian style of Queen Ann. The mansion is known for its size and lack of architectural design or plan. The mansion is a historic landmark in California. The villa is currently privately owned and is used as a tourist attraction. Many, including Winchester himself, claimed the villa was haunted by ghosts killed by Winchester guns because Sarah Winchester’s husband was William Winchester, who owned a company that made firearms.

Move Sarah Winchester

After the death of William Winchester from tuberculosis, Sarah inherited more than $ 20 million and a 50% stake in her husband’s Arms Company, which guaranteed her a daily sales of approximately $ 1,000. Her husband’s inheritance gave her enormous wealth, which she used to finance the construction of her home. After her daughter died, Boston Medium ordered her to move from her home in New Haven and move west to build a house for herself and for the ghosts killed by the Winchester gun. Sarah left her estate and continued her journey to California as recommended. However, it was possible that after a long depression she moved out of the house to look elsewhere, while other sources claimed that ghosts haunted her family and property. The only way to calm them down is to move west and build them a house.

Winchester Mystery House Building

In 1884, Sarah began building the villa. Workers and builders worked day and night until they were able to complete the seven-story building. She did not hire an architect, but built the building the way it suited the home, with some oddities like doors and stairs that go nowhere while the windows face other rooms. The oddities are related to Sarah’s belief in ghosts. The house was seven stories high before the 1906 earthquake, but has since been reduced to four floors.

The Winchester Secret House was built primarily of wood, as Ms. Winchester preferred. Artificial grain and stains were used to cover the wood because Sari didn’t like the look. The house was built with a free primer that saved it from the collapse of the two biggest earthquakes in 1909 and 1989. The design makes the building sway slightly as it is not attached to a brick foundation. Winchester Mystery House has 161 rooms, including 35 rooms, 45 fireplaces, multiple fireplaces and elevators. The house had only one working toilet, while the rest of the toilets were built to confuse the ghosts. Sarah also spent the night in a different room each night to confuse the ghosts.

Winchester Mystery House today

The mysterious house of Winchester opened to the public five months after Mrs. Winchester died in 1923. Today the house is managed by Winchester Investment LLC. The house represents Sarah’s faith and concern to get rid of the evil spirit. Every Friday, the 13th, the estate management rings 13 times at exactly 1 p.m. in honor of the Winchester.
