PV Sindhu Wins World Badminton Championship Title

India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu defeats Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the final of the World Badminton Championships at Basel, Switzerland. They won the match 21-7, 21-7. She became the first Indian to become a champion in the tournament’s 42-year history. Sindhu won silver in 2018, 2017 and bronze in 2013, 2014.

Saina Nehwal had earlier lost in the 2015 finals. In the men’s event, Prakash Padukone won bronze in 1983 and B Sai Praneet this year. The pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won bronze in the women’s doubles in 2011.

Indian shuttlers to return with two medals for the second time
This will be the second time in the history of the World Championships that Indian shuttlers will return with two medals. Saina had earlier won bronze in 2017. Sindhu won the silver medal. Apart from Sindhu, Praneeth also managed to win a medal this year.

Sindhu beats China’s Chen Yu Fei in semifinals

Sindhu beat China’s Chen Yu Fei 21-7, 21-14 in the semifinals. Earlier, the second seed defeated Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying in the quarterfinals. Sindhu had entered the final of the tournament for the third time in a row. Earlier in 2018, she lost to Spain’s Carolina Marines and in the title clash against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in 2017.

Sindhu wins 9 out of 16 matches against Okuhara

Sindhu is fifth in the world rankings and Okuhara is fourth. 16 matches have been played so far. Sindhu won the match 9 times. Okuhara won only seven matches. Sindhu had also won the last match between the two.

In the final of the BWF World Badminton Championship 2019, which lasted 37 minutes, PV Sindhu captured the title by defeating Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 21-7 and 21-7. With this, PV Sindhu has also captured the gold medal. World number 5 player PV Sindhu has completed her revenge by defeating number four player Nozomi Okuhara. 

Actually, this star player of Japan defeated PV Sindhu in the finals of the same tournament in 2017, but this time the Indian shuttler beat them badly. PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman player to win the title at the World Badminton Championships. Before PV Sindhu, no Indian player (also male) has won the final of this tournament. 

PV Sindhu reached the final of the World Badminton Championship for the third consecutive time. However, earlier in the year 2017 and 2018, he had to face defeat and had to be content with the silver medal. Apart from this, bronze medals have also been named in the years 2013 and 2014. PV Sindhu also did well in the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the BWF World Badminton Championships 2019.
