Arun Jaitley’s Temperament Didn’t Match Electoral Politics; Thing’s You Didn’t Know About Arun Jaitley

Arun Jaitley (Arun Jaitley) never won the Lok Sabha elections but he has always been the prime minister’s trusted ministers, whether it is Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government or Narendra Modi’s government. In fact, his temperament did not match his nature with electoral politics. He was educated and concerned about the upliftment of the country, society.

The leadership in Arun Jaitley was led by the entire revolutionary movement of Jaiprakash Narayan. Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and famous lawyer Arun Jaitley was born on December 28, 1952, in New Delhi. Arun Jaitley, son of lawyer Maharaj Kishan Jaitley and Ratan Prabha Jaitley, took his schooling at St. Xavier’s School in Delhi from 1957 to 1969. He did B.Comfrom Sriram College of Commerce, Delhi, in 1973. He then earned a law degree from Delhi University in 1977. He was also President of the Student Association of Delhi University in 1974.

Arun Jaitley married Sangeeta Jaitley on May 24, 1982. They have two children, son Rohan, and daughter Sonali. Arun Jaitley was a Vegetarian and a Punjabi Brahmin. He had a fondness for studying and writing. He wrote several books of law.

Arun Jaitley was the student leader of the All India Students Council at Delhi University. He was later elected President of the Delhi University Students’ Association. In 1973, Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan launched the entire revolution movement on several issues of the country, including corruption, which received widespread support across the country. Arun Jaitley also took a big part in the movement.

Arun Jaitley was active in the movement against the Indira Gandhi government during the Emergency in 1975. During that time, he was the convener of the Youth Front. He had to remain in legal custody for 19 months during the Emergency.

He was first in Ambala Jail and then in Tihar Jail. After his return from jail, Arun Jaitley joined the Jan Sangh. In 1977, Arun Jaitley became the convener of the Democratic Youth Front.

Arun Jaitley wanted to become a CA, but he adopted his father’s profession advocacy. Before entering politics, Arun Jaitley was advocating in the Supreme Court. After doing LLB in 1977, Arun Jaitley began advocating in the Supreme Court and several High Courts in the country. In January 1990, Arun Jaitley was nominated as a senior lawyer by the Delhi High Court. Arun Jaitley was appointed Additional Solicitor General during the VP Singh government in 1989.

In the meantime, he had prepared a probe into the Bofors scam. Jaitley submitted before the British Legal Court of India documents on ‘corruption and crime in India’. He attended the United Nations Conference on Drug Trafficking in June 1998 with the aim of enacting international law to curb drug trafficking. Jaitley wrote several books on legal and current problems. Several senior leaders, including L.K.Advani, Madhavrao Scindia, have been Arun Jaitley’s clients.

With Arun Jaitley joining the Jan Sangh in 1977, he was appointed Secretary of the All India Students Council the same year and then President in 1980. He became a member of the BJP’s National Executive in 1991 and was appointed General Secretary of the BJP on July 1, 2002. He was a BJP spokesperson before the 1999 general election. On October 13, 1999, Arun Jaitley was appointed Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (Independent Charge) when the BJP-led NDA government came to power.

He was also appointed Minister of State for Disinvestment (Independent Charge). The new ministry was then created to effectively implement the disinvestment policy. Jaitley then became the Union Cabinet Minister for Law, Justice and Company Affairs on July 23, 2000. The ministry was handed over to Ram Jethmalani after he resigned. In November 2000, he was appointed a minister of law, justice and company affairs in addition to shipping.

The Ministry of Surface Transport was divided and then became shipping minister. He was appointed a representative of the Central Government in July 2002 to discuss with other groups the issue of separation of powers in the Jammu and Kashmir government nominees and states. He was appointed Minister of Commerce, Industry, Law, and Justice in the Union Cabinet on January 29, 2003. After the NDA’s defeat in May 2004, Jaitley became the party’s general secretary and began advocating.

Arun Jaitley was elected Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha on June 3, 2009. A few days later, on June 16, he resigned as general secretary of the BJP, a post in accordance with his party’s policy. In the Rajya Sabha, she played an important role in the debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill. He supported Anna Hazare for the Jan Lokpal Bill. He served as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2014.

Arun Jaitley, despite being active in the BJP since 1980, never contested any direct elections until 2014. He contested the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 general elections but lost to Amarinder Singh of the Congress. He was previously a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat. He was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in March 2018. He became Rajya Sabha MP for the fourth time.

Arun Jaitley was appointed Finance Minister on May 26, 2014, in a government led by Paddy Minister Narendra Modi. He was also entrusted with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. In November 2015, Jaitley said individual laws governing marriage and divorce should be subject to fundamental rights, as constitutionally guaranteed rights are supreme.

During his tenure as finance minister, on November 9, 2016, he demonetized 500 and 1000 notes to curb corruption, black money, counterfeit currency, and terrorism. It was a historic decision, which had a big impact on the entire country and the economy. Arun Jaitley was elected as the leader of the Rajya Sabha on June 2, 2014. He was Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs from May 27, 2014, to May 14, 2018. He was also in charge of the Ministry of Defence from May 27, 2014, to November 9, 2014. He served as Defence Minister from March 13, 2017, to September 3, 2017.

Jaitley was in charge of the Ministry of Finance and Defence after the Modi government was formed in May 2014. He was defense minister for six months in 2014. Later, Manohar Parrikar became Defence Minister. After Parrikar became Goa’s chief minister, Jaitley was re-in-charge of the Defence Ministry for six months in 2017. Later, Nirmala Sitharaman became Defence Minister. Piyush Goyal twice took over the Finance Ministry due to Jaitley’s illness. In May 2019, Arun Jaitley had told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he would not be able to join the new government.
