Adelie Penguin Pygoscelis adeliae is a non-flying bird from the penguin-like group. One of the most common species of penguins. Named by French explorer Jules Dumont-Durville in honor of his wife Adelie.

 

 Adelie penguin is a medium-sized bird. The torso is about 70 cm long and weighs about 6 kg. The top of the body is black, the belly is white. There’s a white ring around the eye.

Life expectancy is an average of 12 years.

The Adelie  Penguin nests on the coast of Antarctica and the islands closest to the mainland: the South Shetland and Orkney. North of 60 degrees south latitude, species are extremely rare.

The population of more than 2.37 million pairs (4.74 million individuals)

From March to October, The Penguin Adelie roams the ocean, moving away from nesting sites for 600-700 km. Adelie penguin is a very trusting bird, sometimes resembling a human. The main food of Adelie penguins is krill, to a lesser extent fish, amphipods and cephalopods.
